Frequently Asked Questions

Should I homeschool?

Families choose to homeschool for many different reasons. Some come with an academic need to adjust to their child’s learning capacity. Many turn to homeschooling because they have become dissatisfied with public schools but cannot afford private schools.
Others have more traditional reasons such as religious beliefs. Some want the flexibility to teach their children at home at the time they feel comfortable.

How do I start homeschooling?

All that is required by the state of Texas is that your “curriculum is designed to meet basic education goals including reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and a study of good citizenship.” If you are starting at the beginning with a preschooler or kindergartner, you do not need to inform the school district of your decision. You may simply choose your method and get going!
For other grades, you do need to send school districts a letter including: The letter's date, a statement that the child is to begin homeschooling, the date the homeschooling will begin, and the parent or guardian’s signature.

What does a homeschool day look like?

Just imagine yourself as a schoolteacher + a mom + caregiver + driver, and many more. But there is no need to be panic, because you know that you are giving your child a better future. Here are some tips to reduce stress:

  • Be playful. Play can be an important form of learning.
  • Be active every day. Dance, exercise, or sing together. Do some push-ups or swim in the pool. Physical health is essential for mental health.
  • Be flexible. Adjust your study plans based on your children’s interest and mood. There is no need to follow weekends and holidays.
  • Let your children know that you are happy to have them at home.
  • Incorporate many different forms of multimedia such as your children's favorite educational TV shows, documentaries, games, movies, and musicals. Watch and play with them! Everything can be a learning experience for your children.
  • Set up playdates with their peers. Learning how to interact with other children is a life skill. And this will add happiness to their lives.
